It is almost always due to the deposit of cholesterol in the arteries, which disrupts blood circulation and reduces the supply of oxygen to the muscles. WHAT IS ARTERITIS OF THE LOWER LIMBS?

The arteritis of the lower limbs corresponds to a partial or total obstruction of the arteries of the lower limbs. This disease reduces the blood and oxygen supply to the limbs and the muscles are no longer sufficiently oxygenated: this is ischemia.

In 90 to 95% of cases, arteritis results from the accumulation of cholesterol in certain arteries. These deposits form atherosclerotic plaques on the inner wall of the artery, causing an inflammatory reaction (atherosclerosis). This arteritis is called obliterative arteriopathy of the lower limbs or AOMI.

Arteritis of the lower limbs can affect part or all of the lower limbs: foot, leg and thigh.

This disease remains asymptomatic for a long time before manifesting itself. It is sometimes the cause of severe complications.
